Common Flu Vaccine

Happy Family - Flu Shots for Everyone

Influenza spreads quickly and easily through communities around the globe. Whether you’re in a well developed urban area or plan to travel to a rural region of a foreign country, there is a risk. The CDC, WHO and other health organizations strongly recommend everyone receive an annual flu shot.

What is a Common Flu Vaccine?

A common flu vaccine is the most used immunization given. Most of the time, if someone has received the flu vaccine, this is the one they were given.

Types of Common Flu Vaccines

There are different types of common flu shots that a person can receive. As different individuals have different needs, these types exist to help various members of our communities stay healthy.

Standard-Dose Flu Vaccine
The standard-dose flu vaccine protects against four flu strains. It is generally recommended for anyone who is four-years-old or older. Multiple studies conducted globally show this vaccine to be safe for use.

Preservative-free Flu Vaccine
Different people may be allergic to different things or have different needs. The preservative-free flu vaccine protects those who may be allergic to some of the ingredients in the standard immunization.

High-Dose Flu Vaccine
As we age, our bodies change. The high-dose flu vaccine is specifically designed for individuals over the age of 65 to better protect them from the virus.

Is the Flu Vaccine Safe?

Yes, all flu vaccines are safe to receive. The CDC and FDA regularly monitor flu vaccinations to make sure they are as safe as possible for everyone who receives them.

Some individuals may be allergic to flu shot ingredients, like eggs. Be sure to check with your vaccine provider at the time of immunization if you have any serious allergies.

Does the Flu Vaccine Have Side Effects?

As with any medication, flu vaccines may have mild side effects. These can include injection site pain, headache or fatigue. More serious side effects are rare.

Multiple studies show contracting influenza from a flu shot is not possible.
